Choosing a Scissor Lift: What to Check First
Start from the working height: the highest point you need to reach. A scissor lift's platform sits about 2 m below its working height, so a 10 m scissor lift puts a person's hands at 10 m with the platform at around 8 m.
Then check the route in. Measure the narrowest door, any service lift the machine has to ride in, and ramps along the way. For upper floors and mezzanines, confirm the floor can take the machine's weight; the building's facility team usually has this figure.
A scissor lift only goes straight up. If racking, machinery, or a canopy is between the floor and the work, you need a boom lift instead. For outdoor work on compacted ground, use a rough-terrain diesel unit; electric units are for flat, hard floors.
